I contacted the City of Houston's Taxicab Inspector's Office concerning this piece and was told it was used during the 1960's and prior. It was issued as a cap badge to drivers who had passed a background check and demonstrated a proficiency in operating a licensed taxicab.
This 2' high by 2 1/4' wide piece appears to be chrome/nickel plated; t is no makers mark. The piece shows little dings and scratches from use.
Taxi Business License
T is a small bolt attached to the rear which would go through a hole in a chauffer's type visored cap and a flat nut to hold it. T is also a pin at the top to keep it from turning. Interesting piece of history.
